If you are taking up golf and you want to be able to perform as well as you possibly can then understanding the golf swing is going to be key to your success. If you are not able to develop a good swing then you will never be able to perform well on a consistent basis. Here are some thoughts on the golf swing and what makes it tick.
Speed on the swing is not all its cracked up to be. It is all fine swinging as hard as you can but this is no good if you are not in control. When you hit the ball the energy is transferred from the club into the ball and therefore the harder you swing the further it goes.
As a result of this, a small misjudgment on the swing will put the ball way off to the left or right and this can destroy your hole. You need to make an efficient transfer between the backswing and the downswing and this involves a strong body position and rotation of the hips. Look to any pro and you will see that their swing appears effortless. This is what you are aiming for.
Another key to remember is spin. On your drive you need to focus on controlled power and speed but when it comes to shorter iron shots you need to control spin as well. How often have you seen a good iron shot hit the green and continue on going when the pros stop the ball dead?
You need to get under the ball rather than over it as your would on a drive. The wrists are going to be very important and rather than rolling them over your need to keep them straight and up in order to get decent levels of backspin.
The last thing you need to worry about is the actual putt and this will simply involve keeping your arms locked and playing right though the ball in the line of the putt. Friction and gravity will do their work here.
For those golfers out there, we know you are trying to incease golf swing speed. When increasing golf swing speed, it is important to listen to the advice and tips that the professionals, such as Tiger Woods use
